Last night our kids had their first swim meet. It was so fun. My parents came down to watch. We so enjoyed going down memory lane and talking about the days when my brothers and I swam for our neighborhood pool. The kids did great! They loved that they got to write "their schedules" on their bodies with sharpies. Jack swam back, breast and free. He was just so cute. They only have to swim half a lap. Their coaches catch them in the middle of the pool. He had fun and was so proud of himself. Kathryn swam fly in the medley relay, but since it was the first time she had ever done a relay and the first meet, she didn't quite get all the info from her coach. The free swimmer dove in and started, and then Kathryn turned around and swam free too. It was so cute. She was so worried about being disqualified that she cried. So a trip to the concession stand and a few fun phrases of "Go Waves" and "Eat My Bubbles" on her back, and she was back to her old self. She swam fly and breast for the individual events. She won her heat for breast. I was so excited! She looked around for the other swimmers and knew she was winning, hence the big smile. Then she swam the last lap of the free relay. It was just a great evening. I loved hanging out with all the other parents and hearing the kids talk about their races. It wasn't even over until 9:30, so Kathryn was loving life that she got to be up the late. I am just so thankful my dear friend Elizabeth told us about swim team around here. It is just great. The kids practice every day in June and three times a week in July. I am so proud of the progress they have made on their strokes, and they have really started to make lots of new friends. Did I mention yet how much I love swim team?! ;)

Our new neighborhood has a pool and a swim team for ages 5 and up...I can't wait for Baileigh to get involved next summer. She is my fish and I'm hoping that watching all the fun in the pool will help Mckenna overcome some of her anxiety!
That's so fun! I have never heard of a neighborhood swim meet. Down here in da' deep south, we don't have dat sort of thing. : ) They look like they are having a blast! Isn't it fun to see your kids just shine!!!
What a neat way to spend the summer! I am glad the grandparents could come and make it even more special for your children. I wish there was such a thing around in my neck of the woods.
That is awesome! I've never heard of swim teams in neighborhood pools. What a wonderful way to spend an evening.
