So the other night Kathryn goes, "Mom, there are eggs in the tank." She was in her room looking at her tank and I didn't think too much of it. Bedtime routines were in full swing, and frankly, I just forgot. Well, last night, Kathryn goes, "Mom, Princess Aurora laid eggs."
This is where I must explain everything. Jerry has always wanted a big fish tank. This summer he saw an add for a ride-a-long bicycle, which we wanted to buy for the boys. The man was also selling this fish tank. It was sitting in his garage and he gave us an amazing deal on everything, including the fish. Our kids were going through a Sleeping Beauty phase at the time. We had just recently watch the movie, hence the names of the fish. The huge pink one became Princess Aurora. The gray striped one was named Prince Philip. The scary, huge, spotted one is Malificent. And the three fish that were the same kind became Flora, Fauna and Merry Weather.
Well, unbeknownst to me, Prince Philip and Princess Aurora are the same kind of fish. I still find that staggering since she is about the size of my hand and pink. Now we are all getting a kick out of our own Disney variety show going on in the fish tank. We have our own version of Finding Nemo as Aurora guards her eggs and Malificent tries to eat them.
So we were talking about all of this at breakfast. Kathryn's teacher is going to have a baby very soon. I keep telling Kathryn to give her teacher a lot of grace since she is very pregnant. Kathryn is eating her cereal and goes, "Mom, is it true I was once the size of a piece of rice?"
"Yes, Kathryn we all were at one point," I told her.
Her big question: "Even Abraham Lincoln?"
I love watching their minds work.
Let me know if you want some wee little fish once these guys hatch, assuming Malificent doesn't eat them all.
